In celebration of the tenth anniversary of sister state relationship between Taiwan and the state of Delaware, Hanlin Chinese Culture Association in cooperation with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States are pleased to present 2010 Taiwan Film Festival. This year's film festival features a wide range of rarely seen masterpieces from the classics to the present day blockbuster. The festival presents Beautiful Duckling, Oyster Girl and Dragon Inn, three classics from the Golden Age of Taiwan films(1960-70s); A Summer at Grandpa's, A City of Sadness and Three Times, three films from the period of the new Taiwan cinema movement (1980-90s), all directed by the well-known Taiwan director, Hou Hsiao-Hsien; Orz Boyz, Island Etude and Cape No. 7, three films from the second new wave period (1990s to present), directed by recent young directors. This year film festival has invited Merle Shao to give an opening talk about the brief history of Taiwan cinema, Merle is Taiwan Film adviser for Hanlin Chinese Culture Association. Film programmer, Mr. Tom Vick from Freer and Sackler Galleries, Smithsonian Institution is invited to talk about the films by well-known Taiwan director Hou Hsiao-Hsien; Mr. Travis Crawford from Philadelphia Cinema Alliance will give a talk of martial art movies by King Hu. The films will be shown in three locations, All admission free: May 16, 23, 30 at Delaware Art Museum, June 5,6 at Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, and Sep 13, 20, 27 evenings at Hockessin Library.
