Program includes a talk of festivities of the celebration, storytelling of the year of rabbit and the 12 Chinese zodiacs, arts and crafts of paper cutting and folding, taste sampling of Chinese delicacies. This program is geared toward the whole family. Seating is limited. Registration required. Celebrate Chinese New Year: Lantern Festival at the Delaware Art Museum Saturday, Feb 12, 2011 10am – 3:00pm Special performance of Guqing & storytelling by Dr. Mingmei Yip at 1:30pm (Snow Date: Sunday, Feb 13, 10am – 3pm)
Hanlin Chinese Culture Association in conjunction with Delaware Art Museum is pleased to present the fifth-annual Chinese New Year Celebration: Lantern Festival on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Delaware Art Museum from 10 am to 3 pm. Free admission. The program includes traditional Chinese art activities, dragon dance, folk dance and Chinese yo-yo demonstrations by the Chinese American Community Center Folk Dance Troupe and Yo-Yo Club, art works display created by the children from the Chinese School of Delaware, and Chinese calligraphy demonstration. We are honored to have special guest, Dr. Mingmei Yip to perform music on the Guqing, an ancient Chinese string instrument, and storytelling on Lantern Festival. Dr. Yip is an accomplished calligrapher, painter, and writer with nine books published, including wrote and illustrated a children book, Chinese Children’s Favorite Stories (published by Tuttle). She is an excellent performer on the most ancient Chinese musical instrument, Guqin. Her performance will begin at 1:30pm in the auditorium of the museum. Juliet Hsiao from Hanlin Chinese Culture Association will give a presentation on the Chinese customs of one month New Year celebration, and samples of typical food served for the festivities. If time permits, there will be demonstration of Chinese paper cutting arts used for the New Year. |
